Becoming a Nation of Nannies & Wimps

Cowboy Action Shooting™ represents a time when “Men were men and women were women”.  An era when people attended Church, believed what the Bible said, and they were honest, upright, and moral in their dealings.  A time when, “Hard work and ethics were rewarded” and “A person was as good as his word”.  A time when most had faith in the LORD to meet their needs and government officials made an effort ta follow the Constitution.  A time when a school teacher’s only agenda was to teach the three “Rs” in an atmosphere of Godly morals.  Even when I was a boy these values were adhered to.  The Founding Fathers promoted these virtues in their writings.

Benjamin RushSigner of the Declaration of Independence said."[T]he only foundation for a useful education in a republic is to be aid in religion. Without this there can be no virtue, and without virtue there can be no liberty, and liberty is the object and life of all republican governments.  Without religion, I believe that learning does real mischief to the morals and principles of mankind."

Gouverneur MorrisPenman and Signer of the Constitution.  "[F]or avoiding the extremes of despotism or anarchy . . . the only ground of hope must be on the morals of the people. I believe that religion is the only solid base of morals and that morals are the only possible support of free governments.

James WilsonSigner of the Constitution; U. S. Supreme Court Justice, "Human law must rest its authority ultimately upon the authority of that law which is divine. . . . Far from being rivals or enemies, religion and law are twin sisters, friends, and mutual assistants. Indeed, these two sciences run into each other."

George Washington, "And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion...Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principles.."

Noah Webster, "No truth is more evident to any mind than that the Christian religion must be the basis of any government intended to secure the rights and privileges of a free people."

George Washington, "While we are zealously performing the duties of good citizens and soldiers, we certainly ought not to be inattentive to the higher duties of religion. To the distinguished character of Patriot, it should be our highest glory to add the more distinguished character of Christian."

---The Writings of Washington, pp. 342-343.

John Adams, signer of the Declaration of Independence and Second President of the United States, "[I]t is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue."

Thomas Jefferson, "The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first." "When a government gets so big it can give you anything you want, it can take everything you have" "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." "Most bad government has grown out of too much government."

With these words fresh in our mind let us review where we are today.  Having moral values is scorned.  Godly character is looked down on.  A great number of students think it is OK to cheat.  Some think of stealing as, “It is only wrong if you get caught”.  The “Cowboy Way” is equated with flying out of control by the media.  The Constitution is considered out of date by the “pundits”.  God has been kicked out of school.  The Ten Commandants are not allowed in public buildings.  There are generations of Pagans who have no moral core beliefs.  Do you wonder why heinous crimes are being committed of late?  It seems to be easier to blame the perpetrator’s instrument of choice then require personal responsibility.  If this is the case, when the soup boils over on the burner it is the fault of the stove.   No, the reason for these out breaks of violence is rooted in the moral decline of our society.

The “Nanny” government hands out FREE; Phones, Food, Housing, etc. meeting the needs of the masses and in so doing taking over the role of the Church and the family.  There is now “FREE Health Care“whether we want it or not.  And should we choose not to indulge we need only have to pay $3,500 a year to opt out.  What a deal.  We are told what to buy, what to eat, how to eat it, where to live, how to live, and what to think by the government.  All this information is doled out to us without a hint of morality or Constitutional Authority. God and His Word are ignored by most in public office while human life is being devalued and sexual immorality promoted.

Cree Vicar Dave leading prayer before a shoot (Iowa State Shoot).  For the past 4 years, included in the invocation is a request for our nation's leaders to be honest, moral & upright, people of integrity, and for God's hand of protection upon the troops.

It says in the Book of Leviticus of the Holy Bible:

“And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out nations that were before you.”  This verse is found in Leviticus 18:28*.  Here in chapter 18 God warns what will happen to a nation when they ignore The Scriptures.  There are three main things the Holy Bible warns that will destroy a nation; 1, Turning away from God, 2, Shedding innocent blood, and 3, Sexual immorality.  This theme runs throughout the Bible, Leviticus chapter 18, 2 Kings chapter 20-ff,  Romans chapter 1, 1 Corinthians chapter 6, and Revelation to name a few.  The first two of these three are now legal and taking place in America.

1, Turning away from God, teachers are not to have a Bible on their desk in class and most prayer is forbidden in school.  In so doing the US Supreme Court has now created generations of heathens.  The Ten Commandments are kept out of schools and courthouses while at the same time people wonder why children & adults don’t know right from wrong.  I remember reading some place that we have, “FREEDOM OF RELIGION”.

2, The shedding of innocent blood, the US Supreme Court has given permission for the shedding of innocent blood by allowing the killing of unborn babies.  I cannot think of anything more innocent then an unborn baby.  I remember reading some place that we have the right to “LIFE, LIBERTY and the PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS”.  The most innocent in our Country are now the most vulnerable.

3, Sexual immorality, The third and final thing is now at the doorstep of the Court.  If the US Supreme Court rules to condone homosexual marriage they will have fulfilled what the Bible says on this; “…the land, it will vomit you out…”

God does not hate the person, He hates the sin.  He calls all to repent and seek forgiveness through Christ.  The Bible defines marriage as between one man and one woman, (Gen. Ch. 2, the Gospels and the Epistles).  The dictionary defines marriage as between a man and a woman.  Why would anyone want to corrupt the sanctity of marriage?

As a Preacher and the Chaplain of our Cowboy Action Club I ask that you would take time to pray for your Country and your leaders.  Pray that people would turn back to the God of our Founding Fathers and that wisdom, sanity and freedom would prevail.  It says in 2 Chronicles 7:14*, “…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
